How to Apply to CSPP in California

What is the CSPP program?

California State Preschool Program (CSPP) is an age and developmentally appropriate program designed to facilitate the transition to kindergarten for three (3) and (4) old children in educational development, health services, social services, nutritional services, parent education and parent participation.

The focus of the CSPP program is on literacy, number skills, social development, health and safety. The California State Preschool Program provides children with a daily snack and helps families access community resources.

How do I apply for the CSPP program?

You’ll need to reach out to your local school district about applying for CSPP. Typically, students are registered online. Once they are registered families will be asked to upload supporting documents for their CSPP application.

What documentation is required when I fill out my application?

Eligibility Verification (if applicable)

  • CPS or At-Risk Referral letter

  • Self-Declaration of Homelessness or Homeless Referral Letter

  • Current Aid Recipient Verification (i.e. Benefits Letters)

  • Documentation for any income received for the child

  • Income Verification


Family Size Verification - at least one document for ALL children in the family

  • Birth Certificate

  • Passport for Services from the county welfare dept

  • Adoption documents or Foster Care documents

  • Custory/Guardianship orders


Residency Verification

  • Proof you live in the state of California


Other documentation

  • Immunization records

  • IFSP or IEP (if applicable)

  • Court orders that affect day care hours
